Explorer Winter Camp
1st Hillsborough Explorers recently enjoyed a successful winter camp at Ardnavally and Belfast Activity Centre. Lots of action and probably not enough sleep! Back at base, they are now collecting outdoor gear for the homeless – boots, gloves, hats, coats, sleeping bags, blankets, etc. If you have any second-hand gear that you can spare, drop it in at our hall 1930-2130 on a Thursday evening. Thanks!
Registration for membership of 1st Hillsborough Scouts for 2017/2018 will take place on Monday 4th September, 7-8pm, at our hall. Registration is open only to existing members and to joiners from the waiting list who have been offered places. Registration forms will be emailed to parents by 1st September; we have a large number of members to register so it would be appreciated if parents could fill out forms in advance.
We are expecting to make offers to new members during early August – parents will be contacted by email or text. Our waiting list is long, so unfortunately we will not be able to offer places to everyone. Please note that a child who is offered a place and does not wish to accept at this time will go back on to the waiting list – a place will not be held for them. The waiting list is now temporarily frozen until the 17/18 intake is completed.
1st Hillsborough Scouts registration evening for the 2016/2017 season will take place on Monday 5th September, 7-8pm.
All sections except Explorers have waiting lists and are liable to be oversubscribed this year. We will send out registration forms to existing members and invitations to as many children on the waiting list as we can take, prior to the registration evening.
The waiting lists have been closed on 5 August and will be reopened for further membership requests when this September’s intake has been finalised.
We have made progress in finding new leaders .. but we still need some for the Scout troop (ages 10.5-14). Contact email@example.com if you might be interested.
There are real benefits in being a leader:
It’s fun – ask any of the leaders and they will tell you they really enjoy it
It’s useful experience and looks good on a CV
It’s satisfying to put something back into your community and it feels good to be part of a team developing our children
